Council Tree In Middle of Driveway

Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge/experience in regards to getting a tree owned by the council removed in order to get a driveway.

The tree is not protected but is owned by the council. We would need to apply to get the curb dropped and tree removed in order to use the driveway.

Any advice or similar experiences on how to go about this/who to contact/how much this is likely to be would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Can you design your driveway to avoid the tree?
LAs will often move street furniture (at applicant's cost) but unlikely they will move a tree.

0% chance, why would the council remove a mature tree which would have a negative effect on the whole area just so someone can have a driveway, presumably reducing the on street parking

Even if you ignore the tree, does the site meet whatever the council's criteria are for dropped kerbs? Only if it does is it then worthwhile worrying about the tree.

The urban environment needs more trees, not fewer.
The council round here removed a whole bunch of pollarded Poplars around here in the 1980s for various reasons. It was a shame as it has changed the character of the avenue...

When councils built houses 20+ years ago they planted large roadside trees, more trees are now planted in housing estates, but they tend to be small trees.
I noticed a tree planted in the back garden of a new small terraced house. It is a conker tree, totally unsuitable for the size of the garden.

Actually they planted small trees back then as well, they've just grown bigger. Trees tend to do that :)
