    Many thanks PeterP..
TBH, the situation is a lot more complexes than I thought.
You ahve a lot on your plate and have done so for nearly a year but any citizen advice places near you, they are difficult to get appts etc.

I can't recall the name of the handout that police gives to victims but I saw one many years ago about 15 yrs or so that explains in simple, palin language the rights of the victim, those that use the police service and we found that very helpful - ie tells you what to expect and if you don't get it, what you can do.  As you rightly said the bit about not worth the paper its written on - even when dealing with the chief, they forget etc - so if poss keep concise notes, coise is the key word of times and date who you spoke with, time, date, contact details, agreed next step etc.

I hope it all works out and I can now see where the prepared statement comes in.

    Good luck

Btw - just remembered and you don't have to say anything - does your daughter have or recently had a social worker? possibly they could help as some of them are pretty nice people but it's getting hold of one - just a chat may give you more knowledge about how to move forward and put a stop to the lies/etc from the ex.

  • We have an appointment with a Solicitor later today and will follow his advice. I confirm again that we have also asked for a duty Solicitor at the interview and again will follow his advice on how to handle the interview. We will go prepared for whatever the situation is. I will meet again with the Inspector when he has completed his investigation into the previous issue raised. This will be a completely separate issue and will ONLY include the current situation when concluded.
Thanks sweetsand and Comms69 for your input.

Just FYI the solicitor likely cant advise anything until theyre at the police station with you. They need disclosure from the officer involved to give advice.

Generally this means some or all of the evidence is disclosed to the solicitor who can the advise you.

    Best of luck
  • The police will provide disclosure of what is being alleged, provided you have a solicitor. If you do ensure they exchange details of the officer investigating. This will be done before the interview date, and as such you should speak to your solicitor about subsequent strategies.

I am going through something similar myself. Firstly, never believe this is "going in for a chat" to "clear something up". This should be treated as seriously as if you had been arrested and interviewed.

By not attending, you open the possibility of arrest. If your daughter is being harassed you need to identify this as the problem.

It's exactly the same as you having been arrested except you are free to leave, the police cannot give special warnings and cannot take DNA and finger prints. (there's some associated powers but theyre unlikely to be relevant)

Well if they arrested her they'll have to pick her up from the house and get the duty solicitor to come to her so it's not all bad.

I'm sure you've read the thread and agree in hindsight that you comments are completely and utterly unnecessary. Why say something like that when the OP has already explained where they are? Not nice at all and you may now agree that you comments were uncalled for.

Just remember arrest is just a tool to facilitate and investigation. Doesn’t mean anything beyond ‘we need to use certain legal powers’.
