La maison De Sacs

Firstly I want to warn people of the company La Maison De Sacs which is a scam. Do not order from their website. You will not get your goods or money back. Check out further review sites before purchasing.
Secondly I would like advice on how to get my money back. I paid by debit card. I contacted La Maison de Sacs but they replied that they do not offer refunds, returns or exchanges. I cannot return something I have not received! I put in a chargeback through Nationwide which they dismissed.
I have been through various channels including Trading Standards & Shopify - the platform that they use to sell their goods. All avenues seem to be of no use.
Thirdly I would like to know how it is so easy for a company to set up an internet site, take your money, not deliver the goods without any protection for the consumer. If it is that easy maybe we could all start.

I know paying with a credit card gives some added protection but I have lived without one for so long but maybe now is the time to get one

It's not clear from your post why a 'goods not received' chargeback would fail - when you say 'they' dismissed it, are you referring to Nationwide not accepting the claim in the first place or the merchant disputing it after it had been initiated by Nationwide?  Either way round, exactly what was said by the parties concerned about the failure to make chargeback stick?
  • Nationwide are notorious for siding with the merchant from what I've read.........

I have only ever raised one claim against a merchant, via Nationwide. Mind you, it was a credit card purchase. I obviously had to provide evidence that I had not received the goods / the service, and that I had already tried to get a settlement with the merchant. Nationwide couldn't have been more helpful, and I received a full refund within a week.
  • It's a Chinese site.  Even if you did get your goods they'd be low quality crap.  Still confused as to why Nationwide are refusing a chargeback though.

You're based in the UK. The site operators will be in China. That's the difference. People need to use their commonsense when choosing to buy on the internet. Nor does using an Amazon listed trader guarantee that the goods aren't going to be of poor quality or even counterfeit.

OP what is the timescale of this?
I assume Nationwide can dismiss the chargeback if there is still a chance you will receive the goods.
I don't know the site but assume this is based abroad - and international shipping can take a while, especially from some Chinese firms.
So if the sale was, say, only three weeks ago but you haven't received it yet, it may be that nationwide consider that you may well still receive the goods, in which case a chargeback would be, at this stage, inappropriate.
What is the timing so far?

Re your warning, the moral of the story is buyer beware, always check out online shops you've not used before, especially those based abroad.  This is the wild west of the internet - there are loads of scam or dodgy sites and shops out there.  Care is needed!

Their name is a typical Chinese attempt to emulate Western sophistication, not as comical as some but failing miserably nonetheless. Not so hard to see through...

Thanks for all your comments. Some helpful & others not so useful. I made the purchase in on 12th June with a debit card through Nationwide. The response from La Maison de Sacs stated that it was a limited company so I took it that it was a UK company. I raised a chargeback request through Nationwide & waited their 8 weeks for a response. After 9 weeks I contacted them again for an answer. They advised that a reply was sent by post in July which I never received but that there was not enough evidence for a successful claim. It was clear from this that they had not even looked at the evidence. I sent them a string of emails & evidence of other consumers not receiving goods. I am now waiting for a response to my complaint before I go to the Financial ombudsman. However I wanted to warn people of this particular company & how easy it is to be fooled. I now have to be more diligent in purchasing online. DO NOT USE 'LA MAISON DE SACS'

Side note - I now have a credit card. I have not had one for more than 25 years but expect that there will be security using it. I did not get it through Nationwide
