And if she was anywhere near me I would help her do the job.
For tea & biccies.............3 -
OP, you do have some help don't you? This is not difficult, but it is certainly hard work. Someone more knowledgeable than me should also be able to advise whether you can mix and pour in batches, which would allow you to spread the job over a couple of days, but I have a nagging suspicion that it should be done in one go?2

Concrete can be done in bays. On big jobs it's the only way.1

Sorry couldnt reply before as I was at work. Just came back home now. I asked couple of people but nobody wants to help. My oh has copd as well, so, I wont expect help from him either. I can do it myself, honest 😀 I need some time off work I think though as probably will ache a bit afterwards. I am going to prepare the site slowly, digging etc before the concrete stage. I found a local concrete company who does wheelbarrowing the concrete where you want it apparently. I will get a quote from them and see the difference between myself mixing it or getting it ready.olbas_oil said:OP, you do have some help don't you? mixing cement by hand is hard work, if you are going to do it on your own get a cement mixer (hire, buy or borrow it)
remember its not just mixing the cement, its moving it to site, spreading it, and leveling it,2 -
Have a look at your local Concrete For U or whatever they are called.
Make sure you tell them you need it barrowing etc.1 -
Seriously, please get help! Don't underestimate how physically demanding this will be. You will still be needed for your family at the end of the day so if you can share the load with another strong pair of arms, please do.Solenoid said:

So much to read, so little time.2 -

I’m new to doing DIY myself (ex-h was the DIYer, I was just an extra pair of hands) but am learning!
I might need to do something similar in due course...
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur1 -
If you hire a mixer for the week it's not that much more than for a day. You could take a bit longer then and do it in bays. It is possible to do on your own if you have to, I did the oversite for my extension with a belle mixer alone, about 4x4.5 metres.

Is it against forum rules for the Op to give an approximate postcode and ask for actual volunteers? There is a danger of weirdos coming out of the woodwork, but this could be a the lovechild of Martin Lewis and Nick Knowles! Sorry for a horrendous image!mollycat said:
This ^^^^^.Davesnave said:I have nothing useful to add to the great advice here, but I just want to say how refreshing it is to read a thread where the OP decides to go for it, rather than despairing that they can't 'get someone in.'
This thread is a credit to the OP and everyone who has pitched in with their help.
Go for it OP, and good luck!
