Ask for recommendations on facebook and you'll be inundated. Similar requests on my local fb resulted in the OP having to close the post to offers.

The trouble with FB is that every man and their dog can claim to be a builder. I'd much rather look at reviews through Checkatrade. It doesn't matte how straightforward a job is, you don't want it botched.

I recently heard a horror story of someone setting themselves up as a builder and ripping off a disabled pensioner, leaving the work not just shoddy but incomplete whilst pocketing the cash. The barstaward was then seen boasting about it in the pub.

These poor excuses for hom sap walk amongst us.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

The recommendations I'm referring to are from people who've had positive experiences from trade people who themselves often respond to these recommendations.
Checkatrade also is not without its "dodgy"members.

    Sorry I misread.

Checkatrade does de-list dodgy tradesmen once informed by a customer - probably because it primarily seeks to preserve its own reputation.

If you're getting it delivered by lorry, check that they can actually get up to the site.  If not, you'll need a gang of people with barrows, ready to unload the lorry as quickly as possible.
It's all timed, and the driver has to get the concrete unloaded, and the lorry back to the depot for washing out, before the whole lot sets solid.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Yes I was just looking into that. We have a big garden. About half an acre. Base is going on the end corner of garden. So looking into hiring a mixer and mix it myself. Googling about how much cement etc I need and making a list of things I will need.

You need 2 dumpy bags of ballast to give you 4 inches of concrete

Along with four bags of cement for each bulk bag - So 8 in total.
Another two bulk bags of crushed brick/concrete or MOT1 for the sub base.
