    I didn't know that, Jumble.

I was thinking that I could ask about the information they were holding about me personally, and that that would include the facts and figures about this case. I thought I was being clever, but it seems like they just figured I was a pita instead :-(

I've been 'there' a few times before, and the initial response from companies is almost always 'non'. They usually crack over time, tho'...

You can, but that is something different.

Good result in the end,  it disappointing how Vaillant handled it - they shouldn't have charged the call out fee at all in that situation. I've used them for boiler servicing over the years as they've been the same price as local engineers, and they've always replaced minor parts free of charge while doing the service.

Unfortunately the days of them being a premium brand are fast disappearing, despite their boiler prices remaining high.
  • I can understand the reasoning behind their policies, and I'm generally ok with them as long as they treat them fairly.

I think £95 is a bit high for just a abortive call-out fee right enough, but I guess they might look at it as having lost out on another full-priced job in that time? What annoyed me, tho', was that the repair would have been straight-forward and well within the fixed price figure for them - a nice earner. It was only their policy of replacing everything in question - and going OTT with this, therefore making it BER - that seemed a bit daft in my case. I mean, replacing the pump (only around 4 years old) just because water had sprinkled on to it seemed totally unnecessary to me.

But I do think the actual engineer was sincere and expected to be able to do the job. I guess it was when the age of the boiler was factored in that he was scuppered - he was very apologetic.

Anyhoo, all good - I'm gonna nurse that beauty until it's as old as me...
  • You did the right thing in going for a fixed price repair but you went about it the wrong way, you paid the one off fee which means they cover the replacement parts for 3 months, what you should have done is gone for the pay monthly option which is paid over 12 months & covers the boiler for the whole 12 months & the cost works out the same
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Blimey! Would they take it on with an existing fault?

    Sounds a sensible option indeed.
