Fibre dropping during video calls - help me understand what could cause it.

Hi,
I have fibre broadband with talktalk (about 67mb/s) and it's generally fine for everything except video calls using different devices and software.

The main problem is video calls freeze and often end. It's even worse when moving the device (phone/laptop) around. Unfortunately for us we often make video calls.

In general, are these problems between the exchange and my house in which case, would I therefore have the same issue with all providers? Alternatively, is it likely to be the line from the wall socket to the router and/or the router itself? I read elsewhere that it may also be interference.

I think armed with this information I'll be able to make a decision on whether to change provider or stay with talktalk and buy a better router than the HG635 talktalk one supplied.

    You say fiber is dropping .  Is it dropping or are you using Ethernet ( reliable ) or WiFi to connect .
    If WiFi use Ethernet cable .
    Many problems are internal   from master socket poor cable to router .

    If you have a reliable 67Mbs fibre connection using ethernet, then there is nothing wrong with anything external between the  exchange and your router, it sounds like your WiFi is dropping the connection to your phone and laptop it may be due to interference try changing the channel or even using a different router.

    I'm using Wifi. I can't put an Ethernet cable in a mobile though, can I? Let me know if I've misunderstood where the  cable should go.

    Not sure how to change channel but will research it and let you know how I got on. Thanks for your replies.

    Try twisting router around , moving router higher .
    Ethernet to phone no .
    How far from the router is the phone ?

    It seems like there are two issues, one is the range and the other is interference on the channel being used from neighbours wifi. Our router is supposed to find and auto-switch to the best channel but it wasn't doing this. I've fixed that by using an android wifi app to see the channels with least interference and switched it accordingly.
    Moving my router could be problematic due to the distance between the phone socket and the best location in the property. Yes, the router is right next to the phone - can that cause a problem?

    Change from auto to a channel away from next door  1 , 6 ,11.
    Longer connection lead to router .

    If your router and all devices support it, switch to the 5GHz wifi band. It's faster and there will be less interference from your neighbors. If not all your devices support 5GHz, enable 2.4GHz and 5GHz in your router if supported.
