    money back.... result!
Horrible week and totally lost any trust for banks
Well unless you are going to put it in a mattress then you have no choice.
May we suggest that you put a large part of that in either Marcus or NS&i to get the best interest.

Marcus have not been taking new applications for some time but even if they still did, they'd not pay as much as NS&I Income Bonds.

If they've returned your money it should be a sign that they haven't given you a black marker (CIFAS marker).

In the end they seemed quite eager to get the money out of their bank

    Amazing English, by the way.
I'm translating for my wife as she can not read and write English yet.
With the way banks operate now there is an illusion that paying by bacs is easier but in fact it is not, cash is still legal though.... but banks don't make an extra 1% on every transaction, maybe they are singling out cash people. Either way we are not talking about large amounts of money and if there was a concern they could easily of asked for payslips or a p60 etc
And sounds just like restraint is avoiding paying tax/NI on you. And also possibly not declaring full income (avoiding tax) As that cash you get given has to come from somewhere.....
So it's either out of the takings, or they take it from there bank account.
As with cash there is no trail of funds.
This I disagree with, Pubs take a lot of cash through legitimate business and most of the staff are young and part time, it is perfectly reasonable to pay these people in the cash coming through the till. Staff still expect payslips and evidence that their NI contributions are being paid and they are all entitled to pensions now too
The banks WANT you to think that a cashless society is somehow safer but it's just more profitable to them.
I think that if you do not want the same situation with Halifax, then while you do not like it. Get employer to pay you via bank payments.
It costs you or your employer nothing. But it stops issues like this that appear to banks as money laundering & possible tax evasion. Which banks do have to report to the relevant authorities. So your employer could end up with a visit from HMRC to view the books.
Metro could still add CIFAS markers on both of you, and you would then find your Halifax account closed. Which could put your whole wanting to stay in the UK in jeopardy.
Agree, employer is going to pay all wages by BACS now.
If METRO do put a CIFAS marker on either of us we will take action against them as every penny can be accounted for and is entirely legitimate.
The settlement visa process examines your finances in great detail so we have painstakingly recorded every penny, every wage slip, every P60, employment contract etc etc

If they were considering a CIFAS marker, I doubt you'd have got your money back so easily.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

What seems to have been overlooked here is that the restaurant owner has been saving himself the horrendous charges banks make to accept cash from businesses.  It is all very well to say they should be paid by BACS but that is going to cost the employer a lot of money & this is supposed to be a money saving site!

Indeed, banks desire to end the use of cash is mainly profit driven. Our employer receives a lot of cash through the till and paying mainly part time workers cash makes good business sense.

I agree, I highly doubt OP has got a CIFAS marker if he got his money back.

Metro bank contacted us today by email, here's what they wrote:

    Good Evening,

I hope all is well with the house move!

I am responding to your letter you sent to our head office last week.

Firstly I would like to apologise for the timescale you were given. I will be looking into why you received the letter 8 days after the letter was dated.

You stated in your letter that you would like to give the bank the opportunity to correct this mistake. In order to help, could you provide more clarity on this please?

I am out of the office for a few days now, but please feel free to speak with my colleague Lily who I believe you have also met before. Alternatively we can speak on my return next Tuesday.
