no i am not an account holder anymore, just plain old joe public, i just mean pay by cheque instead of switch as I sometimes do in other shops

I am not sure about other stores but in my local Next I don't think you can use cheques anymore. I am pretty sure I have seen a sign up somewhere.

I can confirm Next are taking orders on the phone from Non VIPs - pretty simple process.
