statutory trial period

Options
The Company I work for has decided to reduce the department for 12 to 6 making 6 staff redundant - & moving the work/duties to a different office within the company. I have  accepted an alternative role, (same office) starting on the 1st October - job description/contract has changed & hours have changed (was working 9am-5pm - from 1st  Oct will be working shifts varying between 7.30am start to 8.30pm finish). The statutory trial period starts on the 1st October - for 4 weeks - which I understand is for me to decide whether the new alternative role is suitable (in terms of work & hours)
The issue is my 'old" duties will not be handed over to the other office before 1 October (due to management incompetence) & I have the feeling that I will be expected to continue to cover this duties after the 1st.   Am I  correct in saying that the 4 week statutory trial period is for me to decide whether the new/alternative role is suitable? And that I should not be expected to cover my old (redundant) duties.
Where do I stand?

What do you want to happen?
Do you want the new job or need the trial to decide?

Why do they need you if there is a 12->6 reduction.

Simple solution delay the trial til you actually finish your old job.
  • I need the trial period to decide whether the new hours are suitable (I have family/childcare commitments outside of work) and also need to be trained on the new role.

My concern is that I will be expected to continue with my old/redundant duties as well as learning the new role, as none of the work has been transferred over yet to the other office, meaning 6 staff to cover duties of 12 staff from the 1 October.
I understand the trial period to to decide whether the new role is suitable?? Not to cover my old duties?
I do not want to delay the trial period as this will have an impact on whether I am entitled to the redundancy pay.

You should raise this now while still in consultation you still have 6 weeks to get it sorted,
    things like
how can I be redundant when the work is still here till ......?
you know you can't have me doing that work once I am on the new job(they may throw reasonable request  stuff at you)
if I am going to have to do the old stuff I need a longer trial period.
why don't we move the dates back a month

    etc.
