Surface water flood risk insurance - esure

Hello
I have telephoned esure to inform them that a new build property i am moving into has a moderate risk of surface water flooding. The property/land has never flooded.
They have said on that basis they would not insure the property for buildings insurance.
I was really surprised by this as I thought insurance companies were OK with things aslong as never flooded or high risk.
Has anyone else had this experience with esure?
Is this normal?
Will I get cover elsewhere?

Are you sure it will have a moderate risk of surface water flooding once the development has been built? Or are you looking at the flood risk of the undeveloped land?0

try other insurers, but we found that any risk of flooding will increase your building insurance significantly. they won't insure properties within a certain distance of a water for example, even if the building has never had any experience of flooding. and i think with all the recent flooding disasters of recent years, insurers are even more wary of flood risks.

The flood risk is based on 3D imagery without taking into account buildings and anything the developer has put in place. I.e. it is based on the undeveloped land.0 -

Did the insurer ask you to disclose this information?
Simply answer any questions honestly .. but don't offer information they don't specifically request!!0
