EE LOG CIFAS REPORT FOR NON PAYMENT

Looking for some advice, back in 2015 I bought a ee sim card for data not a mobile phone and it was not on a contract it was a monthly thing where as I understood I paid £20 and had 20gb of data to use.
I stopped topping up after 2 months and the data stopped, after applying for a c/c I was refused and my bank account was cancelled and I was told to check CIFAS file and was shocked to find
First party fraud - (Opening an account or other facility for a fraudulent purpose or the fraudulent misuse of an account or facility;or taking out an insurance policy for a fraudulent purpose or the fraudulent misuseof an insurance policy and/or insurance policy documentation)

Which looks like they are saying I opened my bank account to commit fraud, I had the bank account 7 years before.
So any ideas how I go about getting this removed

  • What is the connection between the sim card and your bank account?

When you say topped up the SIM, this sounds like it was a pay as you go SIM card, so can’t see how this would have affected your credit rating.

I too am also not seeing a connection between the EE sim and the CIFAS marker.

I know you say there was no contract, but are you sure that was the case? Pay monthly SIMs often come with an agreed contract length e.g. 12 or 24 months. So were you committed to pay £20 per month for say 12 months and you stopped after two and thus breached the contract? If it isn't this, I can't really understand what the SIM has to do with your problems.

Assuming that the Cifas reference to fraud is erroneous, see this page and scroll down to "Disputing the Data". These organisations thrive on people not being able to afford to bring libel actions against them.
  • Most likely were signed up to a 30 day rolling sim. But you have to give notice to cancel, not just cancel the direct debit.

There was no D/D I had to log in and load the £20

Nothing, I tried to upgrade my bank account and add an overdraft  which was refused, my bank account was then frozen and then cancelled. My bank then spent me a letter saying I say check out my cifas report

Even if that was the case surely they can not enter a fraud warning ? on my credit report they have listed it was a default of £20
