iphone 6s not receiving notifications.

Need some advice, EE have unlocked my iphone 6s and I did it at my end as well by inserting a different sim in (giffgaff) however, I did this yesterday but since i put the giffgaff sim in, I am not receiving notifications to my apps like Yahoo mail, Sky News, BBC News, Whatsapp. I have not had any notifications since 8pm last night when I put a different sim in, I phone EE and they advised me to uninstall the apps and install them again as I am getting notifications when people ring me and text me, it's just the apps that are not working, also the notifications are turned on. Could that do the trick of uninstall and installing them again?
I am not moving network, I just wanted my iphone unlocked that's all.

Update: I uninstalled them and installed them and now it's working, I am getting notifications. I just got a Yahoo email notification on my screen.
