Easyjet "FLIGHT TIME has CHANGED" may mean "CANCELLED" so check flight codes

EASYJET emailed me last week to sayoutbound flight time from the UK to Greece had been "CHANGED". There were no references to flight numbers or the word "CANCELLED", but it suggested I could claim a voucher or book different flights in compensation, or failing that could contact an Easyjet phone number no one seems to answer. When I checked the new schedules I saw my flight number had changed, the original flight no longer existed and that we had just been moved to the flight which departed 4 1/2 hours earlier that day that we chose not to take when we booked in January. As far as I am aware, a CHANGED FLIGHT CODE COUNTS AS A CANCELLATION and the legal reimbursement T&Cs for this are more generous (hopefully a full refund) under EU regulations EU261/2004 (still valid despite leaving EU). DO CHECK YOUR FLIGHT CODES if you receive a similar email from Easyjet.

As long as EJ informed you with less than 2 weeks before flight, then compensation is probably due.

The chances of compensation are slim. The EU Commission, whilst endorsing the right of customers to be refunded for flights that were cancelled, also made it clear that if the reason for the cancellation was COVID19 there was no obligation to offer compensation on top of the refund. It was quid pro quo as airlines were pushing to be let off from refunding and only offering vouchers instead0
