Which filler to use around the rubber hose?

There is a hole between the bricks, through which the rubber hose from the washing mashine passes. I need to fill up the hole with something, that will not leave any gaps and stop any smell coming in the house (as the rubbish compund is at the other side) but at the same time would not either squize the hose making it to…

I’d start with some scrunched up newspapers. That will definitely not harm the hoses and be easy to change. Cheap? Me?

If you use expanding foam, do NOT get the sticky one, and it would in any case be sensible to wrap the hoses in tape. Newspaper is much easier.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
