Price per mile is already linked to the efficiency of car engines, as is road tax.

Yeah, but that's utterly naff and doesn't represent how often you use the car!

Scrap road tax and price petrol by car efficiency!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It seems inextricably linked to how much you use the car to me, if your car is more efficient, you use less petrol.

Scrapping road tax I'm all in favour of, it is a unnecessary complication in everyones lives (apart from the people who don't pay it).

Having different charging systems at petrol stations would undo all that, and re-complicate everything.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

It does because you have to fill up more often if you have a less efficient car, costing you more, and influencing your decision on how much to use it. albertross is correct that a flat rate does already penalise less efficient cars.

As you admitted, almost impossible to administer cost-effectively.

The protest only worked before because the HGV drivers refused to drive out the refineries. In reality their bosses were secretly sympathetic. There's no way it would happen again.

People have the right to protest, they do not have the right to block the highway, and the police would remove you if you did block the highway. The police did not have to remove anyone last time because no one was blocking the highway, which is why it was so bizarre that the HGV drivers refused to leave the refineries.

If the drivers refused again they could find themselves being sacked.

We all have the vote don't we. The country keeps voting for higher taxes, so that's what we get.

I've got a vote and don't ever remember seeing a paper where i could choose lower or higher taxes.

That would be the choice between Labour and the Conservatives.

As I discovered last time, it's not your employers problem how you get to work. Hope you've got a sympathetic employer because they'd be under no obligation to pay you if you didn't turn up. You'd likely have to use annual leave.

No problem only moved. In order to ensure same amount of money coming into the treasury then the amount lost by reduce petrol duty would have to be moved onto something else.
