8 years on a bill from 3 mobile!
Can anyone help me with some advice here? I had an account with 3 mobile for mobile broadband 15 years ago, which I canceled in 2010. In 2018, yes, 2018, 8 years later, they sent me a bill for a supposedly outstanding account of £40 odd pounds from that time. I was out of the country till just recently looking after an elderly relative so never got it. I had some odd emails from some weird company called Lowell, and no idea what it was about, so ignored it as a scam after trying to get hold of 3 mobile in the Uk to no avail. Even more weird, on a trip back to the Uk a few months before I moved back home here permanently, and before I knew anything about this, I opened a new 3 mobile account, same address and everything and no mention then was made to me of some outstanding bill...I even had the same phone number! I tried to contact 3 about it when I first heard from this lowell outfit, but it has been pretty impossible, especially when I was overseas. I am worried that (a) that this is a scam or (b) it i not a scam and it might affect my credit rating. I have checked my experian record and there are no county court judgements, heaven forbid. Which is what I thought the pursuit of legitimate bad debts lead to....advice anyone???? Cheers

Option B is your answer.CCJ will follow if you keep ignoring itFWIW I'd just cough up & be done with it, it's only £40ish so far but may have extra dobbed on top now a debt collection agency and their costs are now involvedA quick Google would have shown who they wereGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0

Lowell is a proper debt company.
if you haven't got anything on your credit file yet i would pay the outstanding amount as soon as possible before they do add to your credit file which will stay on there for about 7yrs.
So has Farway said as well get it paid being it's such a small amount.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
Not a scam at all, Lowell are well known.
Your credit rating will not be affected as only you see your rating, your credit history is what is important.0 -
Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. But how can a "debt" suddenly appear randomly 8 years later? I had a DD and it was a monthly thing for mobile broadband, paid in advance. I just do not get it.0

My husband had something very similar happen with EE (and he is also still with them and using the same number). He spent ages on the phone and got nowhere. In the end he wrote a letter and explaining the situation and the bill was cancelled quickly and without any argument from them (not sure they ever actually admitted it was an error), so maybe that is worth trying.
