Hi,
where do you stand if you arrive at a pay&display machine and its asking for only cash but you don’t have any physical cash on you. No pay by app or card machine. Its not feasible to get cash either because the car park is remote.
thanks.

Or you park, and walk to the nearest shop for change, then get back to find you have a parking ticket.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If you don't have the means to pay you either park somewhere else, or you park there and take a chance of getting a ticket. You don't get free parking.
IIRC there's case law to the effect that you are allowed to park without displaying a ticket while you queue up for the ticket machine (obviously), but not while you leave the car park to find change to feed the machine. You certainly aren't allowed to park indefinitely because you didn't bring the right change.0 -
what did you do?0

No difference to if you get there and the car park is full.Explorer87 said:where do you stand if you arrive at a pay&display machine and its asking for only cash but you don’t have any physical cash on you. Why on earth would you go somewhere "remote" with zero cash on you?0 -

In this changing society moving from cash to card payment I can’t remember when I last carried cash with me.AdrianC said:

Yes, I wondered whether it would be some entitled Millennial-style "Wah! I don't like cash! I don't WANT to carry cash! The world should suit my preferences!" thing*.Explorer87 said:

Your choice not to. There is no legal requirement to accept any other forms of payment. If you can't pay to park, you can't park. Well, you can, but you can expect a perfectly legitimate and enforceable ticket.
* - IME, it's not usually actual millennials, it's usually those who are old enough to know better, and usually the first to whine about others being "snowflakes". Probably Daily Mail believers.1 -
I keep a few quid in change in the car for parking, and when I need to pay for eg a loaf of bread and my card is declined.Explorer87 said:

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I don't normally carry cash, especially nowadays with most places preferring contactless.Explorer87 said:

But if I'm going somewhere I don't know well, and know I need to park, I will make sure I have cash and a range of change to cover most eventualities.0
