Just an update.... I didn’t pay her anything. She has now reposted the caravan on gumtree for £695 (so still trying to make a profit on the £400 she payed) I’ve screenshot her advert incase I do get grief off anybody.

A lot of people buy things to make a profit  - I’ve got a laptop advertised now that I know is worth about £400 used - listed at £450 to test the water - getting offers of £150 from people calling me ‘pal’. I know they’ll buy it low and sell it higher. She’s probably the same.

Yeah I ha e no problem with her buying and selling it as a profit. Just screenshot her description which is not too dissimilar from mine and clearly agrees there is a fridge and no damp where she was trying to blag me that it was damp!

She’s probably gone away from me now! Lesson learnt with that one. Never selling something big to anyone without them seeing the item first.

The only way it could be a scam is if the buyer hacked someone's account or stole their details and sent money from an account that is not theirs. Happens often with people selling bitcoin

This is a bank transfer though and if you look at the bitcoin stories then 'sender' never get their money back as scammers don't just hack accounts randomly they get the owner to willingly supply the details acting as a money launderer in return for bitcoins. (I agree the sender might not realise they are money laundering). The recipient of a genuine bank transfer cannot have it recalled unless the sender can show somehow they were part of a wider scam, and even then it is near impossible.

The OP, as mentioned several times above, has no worries here.

This is one of the common bitcoin scams here- and note sender did the transfers willingly : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6077733/bitcoin-scam-bank-refusal-to-help/p1

the OP mentioned that someone else picked it up. not really a scam but that reminds me of a really bad practice some dodgy buyers do (+ it happens to me).. basically before they even get the item in their hands, the "buyer" has  sold it for profit and make you unknowingly send it to the 3rd party.  :/

It doesn’t only apply to pick up items either, but to posted sales. I have often been asked to send things without an invoice and without identifying myself as a seller as they are sending to their own buyer. I don’t really have a problem with it, my fault I suppose , if I’m selling too cheap and others can use me as a drop shipper the. I haven’t done my research properly.

On a couple Of occasions I have annoyed the other buyer, either by increasing my prices or by running out of stock. A few Christmases ago I had a line that was a bit slow for me and I didn’t want to get stuck with too much stock after Christmas, so I put it on sale. I started selling to a couple of people, possibly just one dropshipper using a few Id’s as well as to other customers. When I was down to my last half dozen in stock I pulled the listing and sold them on Facebook instead. I was quite surprised to get a rather irritated email from a buyer asking me what happened to my stock as he needed to buy 3 to send to his own buyers and was actually cross when I told him I had sold out. He got stuck with at least 3 buyers to my knowledge Whose orders he could not fulfil .
