If you enter your email address into the following website it will tell you if your email address and other details have been obtained from other hacked websites.

I wonder how accurate that is.  Says one of my emails is compromised.  River City Media and verifications.io
never used either of those and its an account that is rarely used and only for genuine big name sites.
    Antipublic combo list?

After 20+ years with the same email accounts it's amazing that all of my emails are not on that site.

I suspect it is just another scam to harvest e mail addresses?

These are marketing companies that your 'genuine' websites will have outsourced some of their admin to. Assume that the password has been legitimately compromised, and fix it.

Assume which accounts have been compromised though?   No idea who river city is or verifications.io.  I use NoScript in Firefox
and have not allowed those website on any that I use.

No accounts listed. No personal dealings with either of those sites and not loaded in the background because
noscript blocks everything unless I allow it.

More likely they found the email address on a list. NO passwords have ever been duplicated so no risk there.

If the website flags your email as having been compromised in a breach then it has been compromised - the site is managed by a well-known security researcher who knows his stuff. It's likely the companies in question have been handling your data in some way, but may not necessarily be the organisation you are signed up to directly. It's usually a data breach on their end so all the protection on your local PC means nothing in these instances.

Basically you should assume the worst and change passwords on any service where you used that specific email/password combination - if you're not sure what site(s) you used it on then the safest approach is to change your passwords for ALL sites that you use.

Compromised as in someone magically found my work details and my home details and linked them all to that email
address?   Or the fact that my email appeared on some list somewhere?

Never used River City so how could anyone gather any info from me?

I have pointed people towards that site many times also, but have the waters got a bit muddy with genuine
breaches where passwords/data has been compromised and where just the email exists on some spammers
list of emails they tried?   I rarely use my real name when signing upto anything not essential to have my
real name. Even Ebay/Paypal have a slight variation Pete/Peter for example, so I know if someone used
my ebay name to send a paypal spoof.

They have not provided any password or other data to show the account as genuinely compromised.

Was about to reply that you stated they had provided your password in your OP. But I've just realised that although you were posting as if you were the OP providing further info in response to our replies, you're not the OP.
