Refund issued to a closed bank account

Dear readers,
I would like to ask for help regarding a problem I have with a refund. I will try to explain everything in short.
Back in February, I bought a laptop on the Lenovo US website using my VISA debit card. I am not from the US but I was supposed to travel and pick it up when I am there. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was not able to travel and I had to send back my purchase. It took Lenovo a long time to receive the item. When they finally got it, my bank account was closed and the card not valid anymore. I tried to contact them saying that they should redirect my refund to my current bank, but no answer was received. Now, months later I still haven't received my money, every time I call Lenovo they say to call bank and vice versa when I go to my old bank.
Does anyone have an idea on how can I get my money back?

which bank was the closed account with? How was the account closed?0

You need someone with competance in either organisation.Bank is the one to go to if it was not returned (of course you need them to check!). Lenovo otherwise (but you would need the bank to check first as they probably won't). So someone of competance at the bank first.0

When was the money refunded by the supplier? What evidence has been provided?0

If the bank account was closed then the money would have bounced back to Lenovo. They must have got it by now. It's up to them to reissue a refund. What a scam! I don't see what their problem is because they have a website in the UK as well as in the US, it shouldn't be a problem at all. Given that they have a UK website, you could start there, if you haven't already, and if no joy, take it to the Financial Ombudsman, which you should be able to do as Lenovo are doing business in the UK. You may need patience but you can't let this one go!Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. In the bank, I got a statement that my bank account was closed on the 18th of May, and a refund was issued on the 27th of May. From Lenovo, I got like a paper form with all info about reimbursement. I will try to send that for to bank, as there seems to be some kind of transaction identification number.Carrot007 said:You need someone with competance in either organisation.Bank is the one to go to if it was not returned (of course you need them to check!). But you are right, those customer support people just say 'oh go talk with bank' or vice versa, not transferring this problem to some higher levels.0 -
Money was refunded after I closed my bank account. As mentioned before, I have a statement from the bank now where it says that the bank account was closed on the 18th of May, and a refund was issued on the 27th of May. Now from LENOVO, I got a statement with info about refund transaction.Thrugelmir said:When was the money refunded by the supplier? What evidence has been provided?0 -
I think the same, how come they don't see money bouncing back, that's the most logical thing to happen in this situation. Maybe they don't want to see it. As mentioned before as well, they just don't promote this problem to upper levels of financial departments maybe.MalMonroe said:If the bank account was closed then the money would have bounced back to Lenovo. People on this forum have limited knowledge about non-UK banks. The best suggestion is probably that you get written confirmation from your old bank for the closure date, and then send it to the Lenovo country you returned the laptop to, with a request they make the refund to a different account / card.0
