Amazon return: No need to return?

Many warehouse buyer reports would show they do very little testing/checking on returns that get put on sale in the warehouse
I doubt they ever go into the boxes if they come back sealed. They do dispose of quite a lot of returns, I know one auction house that handles a lot of their stuff, I think they sell it on by the pallet.

Most stuff is as described but I have had missing items, undeclared damage etc.
Bought a Playstation VR set that was supposed to be complete with games but was the bare kit. Haggled a good discount with Amazon CS though.
Most recent was a 'like new' motherboard that had components snapped off the motherboard, thermal paste smeared over it and missing accessories in the box!0 -
On a side note, this is how people get banned. Amazon has a bit of a generous returns policy so people think that was easy I will do it again and push their luck to far.

I've just had this "no need to return" from an Amazon purchase that I wanted to return under my 14-day option.
I'm pleased to have received a refund without any bother but I also feel rather guilty now at having a product that I don't want and uncomfortable at this just becoming more electronic waste straight to landfill.
It was an accessory for my phone that was not compatible with the phone so I could now hold on to the item until, one day, presumably, I'll get a phone that the accessory works with. But that now kind of feels like stealing.

If you're on Facebook you could offer it on a local group for someone who might need/want it.
Amazon make a business decision on returns, it's often cheaper to refund without a return than pay for the return and then open it, sort it, check it and restock it.
