Amazon return: No need to return?

Not really Ebay but doesnt really fit anywhere else really.
Bought a packed lunch bag which turned out to be just too small for its intended purpose.
Organised a return on Amazon selecting refund to my card.
Once clicked Amazon tell me I dont need to return.
This is a new item direct from Amazon. Seems weird?
Anyone else had this?

Well it’s pretty clear - no need to return - they probably worked out the cost of return - the cost of handling - the cost of restocking - and decided it wasn’t worth it. Probably wouldn’t work for a widescreen tv though

I get that. Weird bit is I also have a padlock to return (Amazon warehouse) for similar value and I'm returning that!cymruchris said:Well it’s pretty clear - no need to return - they probably worked out the cost of return - the cost of handling - the cost of restocking - and decided it wasn’t worth it. Majority of returns around Edinburgh go to Amazon SDC at Wishaw (an RM building) so surprised they wouldnt just take the return0 -
Had this yesterday ordered a little tyke car for my 2 year old grandsons birthday and was surprised when a beer pong game arrived instead I didn't want them to send a replacement as I was concerned I would end up with the wrong item again so I opted for refund to card and got the same money returned and no need to send the pong set back.
Now I am pondering over what to do with the beer pong game lol0 -

I've had this too, but the item was incorrectly described rather than unsuitable0

Yes, happened to me too. It was a book but of a similar price, ordered as a gift but the recipient already had a copy. Amazon can afford it, after all they've been doing a roaring trade during lockdown and also, they don't pay any tax. It's just too much trouble for them to process some returns. . .custardy said:Not really Ebay but doesnt really fit anywhere else really.

Perhaps not entirely accurate.
They appear to have only paid £220 million last year in direct taxes on £10.9 billion in business.
With a total of direct and indirect tax paid at £793 million.
£625 million invested in infrastructure and they also offset the £3600 per year as an expense, that employees are paid in shares against corporation tax. Entirely legal but HMRC lose out big time!
They have a very good busines model.
So yes for some cheap orders it does appear they can afford to let loyal customers keep some items.

It might well be down to Covid and general hygiene requirements.custardy said:I get that. Weird bit is I also have a padlock to return (Amazon warehouse) for similar value and I'm returning that!
As the lunchbag would be used to store & carry food items, it probably has to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before they would consider reselling it, something that may not be worth the time and effort for an item that cost less than a tenner.
The padlock on the other hand shouldn't pose too much of a problem as it wouldn't come into contact with food and even if Amazon wanted to disinfect it, a simple spray on the outside would be more than enough.0 -
If you have used the bag then you can't return it anyway.shaun_from_Africa said:
