Mr S had the option of giving more than one number, so he listed mine as well. Paypal is in his name, but I tend to use it the most - so hopefully I'll be able to select my number to receive the code.

Yes, it will be a faff - but blame the scammers, without whom there wouldn't be a need for additional security protocols.This is what the email says:This means that when you login or pay with PayPal, you may be asked for a one-time code that we send to the phone number you have registered in your profile.I wouldn't expect it to be applied to every transaction but maybe it will.

Spoof or ‘phishing' emails tend to have generic greetings such as "Dear PayPal member". Emails from PayPal will always contain your full name.

This the section for rants so I'll say it here... what arrangements are they going to make for people (and there are tens of thousands of them) who live in areas where there is no mobile signal and therefore cannot receive a text message?

Many smartphones support Wi Fi calling. Texts can come via home wi fi connection.
