three sim in 2g phone?
Comments

Nope, won't work, it did a few years ago on some select phones but 3 found out and stopped it, know someone who was charged for making calls off a 3g sim on a 2g phone and 3 wouldn't refund them.2p off is still 2p off!0

It does work but isnt recommened. Basically 3g are partnered with 02 who is 2g.
The 3220 unlocked will work on any 3 pay sim. Nokia 1100 is said to work on select sims.
When you use your 3 sim in a 2g phone, the phone locks onto the 02 (2g) network as its a 2g phone. This cost 3 alot of money as you are roaming on the 02 network.
The signal quality will be excellent as you are on 02's network. But 3 dont allow it cos they gotta pay 02 alot more than if the call was made using their infrastructure.
So they will find out cos you are allways using 02's network even though you are in a 3 area.
Either they will terminate your contract, or if you are lucky send you a new sim with the terms and conditions which state that you mst use only 3g handsets.0 -
I tried to put 3 sims in 2g handset, it didnt even recognise the simLife should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0

It depends what phone you use.
The 3 network uses "USIM" which is designed for 3G.
The 2G networks uses "SIM".
If you have a new 2G phone then it might support SIM and USIM. If you have an old 2G phone it will only support SIM. All 3G phones on the market today support USIM and SIM.
I know Vodafone are still using SIM even if you are using 3G. I am not sure what O2 and Orange are doing but I guess they are still using SIM as well.
It will only be the networks that are purely 3G that will use USIM, ie Three.0 -
mbailey (cool name
).. so u are saying u need a newer 2g phone or what? cuz i heard (previously) that u needed an older 2g phone (presumably that doesn't support USIM) from fatboys testimony thou it doesn't sound like it will work (nicely) even if u find a phone that works..
shame, not that i have a problem using 3's own network (quite happy for them to get the revenue they deserve).. but all the phones suck0 -
so will a 3g sim defo work in a unlocked 3220? and will that get blocked etc?0

I've never tried this myself but yes some 2g phones, possibly including the Nokia 3220 (from what I read here) support USIM technology (which among other things uses a different amount of voltage from SIM technology).
However there is no point in putting a Hutchinson 3G simcard into a 2g phone because they will quickly realize you are connecting to o2 masts near their masts (see http://www.sitefinder.radio.gov.uk/ for mast locations & info) and then they'll do something about it (terminate your contract/bill you for the usage/block you/any combination of these).0 -
I have a Nokia 3220 (unlocked) and my 3 sim will not work in it. The phone does not recognise the Sim card.0

Maybe you didn't unlock the phone properly.
I've unlocked plenty of these for people and the 3 SIMs work fine.
I have even used my own '3' SIM in one of these phones after unlocking it and it recognised it without any problems.0 -
I own both a Nokia 3220 (Unlocked) and LG U8120 (Three Locked).
I can put my Three sim in my Nokia 3220 and use it fine. Call quality is excellent. I only do this when my battery in my LG runs out though. I have heard of heavy users being blocked.0
