Don't like this one, but would love an enormous house. I love decorating, having friends stay, buying furniture, etc. If that's what I can afford to own when I retire, I'd love to! My MIL and her partner own an 8 bed house (ex-guesthouse) by the sea. That'll do!
There is one close, 8 bedrooms set up as guest house.
    cheaper as well.
I though about posting but less rural.

For work the navy base / Babcock is a large employer 4.5 miles away, and Glasgow is an hour away by car or there is a train station 4 miles away or 67mb Internet for home woring.
But best of all to wake up to that view
Glasgow an hour away sounds like estate agents optimism.

The nearest station (6 miles) has about 7 trains each way a day, (though one is a direct service to Euston).

And the view disappears on a regular basis - see GDB2222's comment on rainfall. Local saying - "If you can't see Greenock it's raining; if you can see Greenock it's going to rain."
This possibly looks as if I'm trying to put the area down - I'm not, I've lived in Helensburgh for over 30 years and am very happy here.  I have no intention of moving (I'm English). But it sounds like you've plucked a house/area out of nowhere and you aren't being being very realistic about it.

PS The views from here on a good day are beautiful.

I admit, Andy, that I have only read the first post on this thread and looked at the Zoopla link. But, it's enough for me to say that you have made a great decision IMHO. We have a house in Scotland, though it's in Perthshire, but we do know Helensburgh and that area quite well------and it is a really nice area for somewhere so close to Glasgow. But of course , Glasgow must be over 20 miles away ---and on the other side there is a national park I believe, Beautiful countryside. Unless the house is in disrepair, you have done what so many folk wish to do but never buck up the courage. When you have turned it into a luxury restaurant with rooms, give me a shout please.
The very best of wishes in your new home, Andy.

I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that this was just a hypothetical scenario.

I assume you chose Scotland as you are from there  but why would anyone want such a large house? Unless you have 5 kids, and if you do there are not enough bathrooms
    We have five kids! :)

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • I grew up in central London. I now live in Kent and l love it but it still irks me that l have to drive literally everywhere. I miss being able to walk somewhere to run errands and browse.

The West coast of Scotland is simply gorgeous, when it's not raining!  ;)

A nice big detached house with great views for less than the price of a one bed london flat, good internet for WFH

Is the waving cat in image 11 included? Well, I think it's waving, might be showing off its opposable thumb. After all cats will take over the world one day ...  😁

    Better buy it quick.
Just my opinion, no offence 🐈
  • Thank you all for the replies, I don't think the black cat is included but you never know with cats, thumbs or not
