Hi folks,
Probably this scam has been doing the rounds for a while, but anyways got a phone call from this number 01201958625 with a recorded message that my Amazon Prime (which I don't have) was due for auto renewal and to press 1 for assistance which I was asked to do a few times, then answered by some scam artist who said "This is Christian from Amazon Prime, how may I help you" To which I replied "This is the local police station, how may I help you" and the phone call was suddenly cut off.
Another Scammer number to block on your phone if its possible to do so.
Taking into consideration that is so easy to sign up to Prime on one of their Kindle tablets by a miss placed finger, or oven by saying yes to Alexa, and the scammers clever enough tactic to get lull you into a false sense of security that it is a genuine call by getting you to press 1 a few times, I am sure they probably do quite well out of this scam.
It has happened to me a few times that I have signed up to Amazon subs by mistake so the only sure way on a kindle tablet, is to enable parental control which happens to block Alexa as well, but since Amazon allow you to sign up to subs simply by using Alexa maybe this is no bad thing.

Area code 0120 doesn't exist, and 01201 is not geographically assigned. Block the number by all means but they'll just change it anyway - this wasn't the number they called from.3

Why did you press 1? Does that not put you through at an extortionate charge rate? I had the amazon prime call earlier this week since I know amazon do not phone and advise me, how could they, they don't have my phone number, I just let it run its course.1

Pressing 1 does not connect to a premium rate, I often do this to have a laugh. But often it just disconnects.2

We do use Amazon Prime. Good value actually IMHO. We also used to get these scam calls although we never pressed 1, just hung up. In fact we were being plagued by cold calls even though we are ex-directory. Anyhow, we are Sky customers so signed up to their Sky Shield call blocker and hey presto, the end of all unwanted calls.1

Been getting lots of these again in the last couple of weeks, I think the call centres in India must be back up & running.
They are difficult to stop because they keep changing the last couple of digits.
If I am bored I press 1 & spin them on with all sorts of ludicrous rubbish.0 -
Try RoboKiller! They can set up pranks to answer your call and tell these people ...

I use the Should I Answer? app. However any such solution is only an option for calls to a mobile - calls to a landline require alternative solutions (such as a phone with trueCall technology, like the BT 8600).1
