I watch this thread with the same amusement as I do when certain serial posters arrive and deride other points of view and regard themselves as "big men". I am also amused on this occasion by the chatter about moon gold-----can't we even stay in the realms of foreseeable reality ?
Gold is a commodity which everyone on this forum would like to have-----they know it and I know it.
But they don't have it ----and their grapes runneth over with sourness.
Why does no-one ever say "hey coachman", congrats on your gold bars, wafers and coins "?.
It's because of a very nasty 24/7 clique of people who should be pitied for the chips weighing so heavily on their shoulders.
I am not advising sixpence or anybody else to buy gold-----they can do as they please and I wish them well. But I do think it shows ambition for sixpence and others to take an interest. There is room for gold to be held in suitable quantities for anyone. And good luck to the ambitious.
Gold has many advantages which I am not going to list again for the umpteenth time, But one thing is for sure : gold, whatever is going on around the economies makes the wealthy stay........wealthy !
You can sail the world and never find any sensible person who would disagree with that.
Good luck with your continuing amusing discussions. I don't think I'll pop in for a glance  :)

Bitcoin is much better choice than gold when it comes to assets inversely correlated to equities or just alternative assets.
I wouldn't worry about gold too much, just put 5% of your assets to Bitcoin and leave it there, with luck that 5% will beat remaining 95%.

No it isn't. The only things bitcoin is correlated with are hype and gullibility.
I have more fully explained about bitcoin previously: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6206205/bitcoin/p1

You have said this a few times. Why do you think that everyone on the forum wants gold but can't have it? Surely if people really wanted it they would buy some?
I'm happy with my small exposure to commodities via mining and trading co's, not to mention the wider indirect exposure via shipping, industrial users and consumer end users. As least they are productive assets that pay me dividends to hold them rather than needing constant storage and security.

You can buy a gold coin for less than £200 - I would guess the wealth vast majority of mse forum posters, especially the "nasty 24/7 clique" just slightly exceeds this.
Why does no-one ever say "hey coachman", congrats on your gold bars, wafers and coins "?.
Would you like them to? Would this make you feel better? I hope for your sake this isn't the case because if so that is genuinely quite sad.
Point One above------I'm not talking about kiddies' £200 coins ; I'm talking about very large amounts in the realms of 100 kruger rands' presentation packs and 12.5 kg gold----400 ounces----gold bars.
Point Two above-----The usual sarcasm. I merely make the point that no-one seems happy about anyone else's good fortune. And THAT is the really sad thing.
  • Good luck to you Coachman12; I believe you are far better off in gold than currency or bonds going forward.

So again why don't you think we could buy gold bars if we wanted to?

That is very likely true. However it is probably the case, as it has been for a very long time that the very best place to be over the long run is stocks.

I feel sure from all your posts that you could not afford the particular gold bar I made reference to in my post above, nor the 100 krugs. Tell me I'm wrong !
