in Credit cards
Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice.
We paid for our holiday to Jamaica on 2 credit cards making the final payments in April as per the terms of the holiday. Holiday was then cancelled last month and we got the refunds back on to the cards last week. As we had done balance transfers this has meant that both accounts are now in credit. Sainsbury’s is £2.5k and Barclaycard is £4.3k. These are both in DHs name but I have been messaging them to get the money returned to us as he hates anything like that. Barclaycard have said no problem they will pass the details on to the relevant department who will notify us when it has been processed.
Sainsburys however wanted him to call them which he has just done. They wanted to know who the refund was off, when the original payment was made and have now asked for the last statement from our current account to be posted to them. Is this normal? Why are they asking for this?

They're being overly cautious on money laundering.0

The first two questions they are asking are utterly stupid as they will know where the refund is from. As for asking for a statement, they just want to verify the sort code and account number they are sending the refund to, seen it crop up a few times on here of late0

It’s so annoying especially as the account is the one the direct debit was coming out of.
They want us to post!! the statement to them. I need my money back especially since some of its my dads as he was coming on holiday with us.0 -
Surely they will accept a scanned copy or a PDF via email?
Your other alternative is to spend the £2500, no idea how quickly you could do that as day to day spending, and put the money you would have used for it to one side to pay your dad back.0 -
Just shows how many people live month to month with no spare funds anywhere.-2

Amex also wanted a pdf of my bank statement before they would release the funds - I think they said they require it for any refund over £1k now.1 -
Amex refunded me 4k via online chat last week - all they needed was confirmation of the account the refund was to go to. I've always found them the most responsive of all the cards I have.
I chose to get the balance refunded as it would have taken 3-4 months to spend it, but more importantly, I'd have lost any s75 protection for those purchases, which is becoming increasingly valuable these days.1
