***** SOLUTION FURTHER DOWN THREAD*****

I called Sky today to ask if I could buy a Freesat card to go in my old Sky box because I need it to watch BT Sport and was told they don't sell them any more and I would have to subscribe for 18 months.  I have previously had one (it cost £20) and I was happy to buy another one.
Was I being told porkies?  Or have Sky really stopped selling the Freesat cards?

They stopped them ages ago.  Sky+HD boxes fall into Freesat from Sky mode when your subscription lapses.  SkyQ probably does as well but you have to send the equipment back anyway.

Thank you.  That makes getting BT Sport on my TV a real ball ache. :(

    Supported devices here:

Closest equivalent to Sky is a nowTV Box, or a supported Samsung TV.

    Thanks Neil,
I don't have any of those and have just (today) had an LG Oled TV delivered.  My cunning plan is to watch on my laptop and attach my laptop to the TV by HDMI.  A bit cludgy but I have no intention of giving Sky a penny piece of my money.

I wonder if I buy a second hand viewing card on ebay it will work in my second hand Sky HD box or would I be throwing a fiver away?
The idea of upgrading our telly (our old Sony is 20 years old and has done sterling service) was to cut down the number of boxes and remotes we'd need.  Ha!

I cast BT Sport from an old phone using the BT Sport app and a Chromecast; I know that Sky disallow HDMI outputs on laptops - not sure whether you might have the same issue with BT ??

The man on the end of the phone at BT Sport today assured me that I would be able to.
Plan B will be a Now TV stick which contains the App.

I though I would come back and tell you how I sorted this out.
I bought a NowTV stick for 24.99 and then downloaded the BT Sport App onto the stick.  Logged into the BT Sport account and lo and behold, it works!  BT Sport on a TV without a Sky subscription.

One off £24.99 for the stick then whatever your BT Sport sub costs.

Edited to add, how do you do it?
