Gym membership

I had a gym membership that got temporarily stopped when gyms were closed.. they now want to reinstate the payments which is fair enough if the gym is going to be used. My problem is I have a very vulnerable daughter who is terrified of catching this horrible disease, she hasnt crossed the doors for 17 weeks now and we have done everything we can to shield her down to shopping 30 mins before the shop closes so we dont come into contact with anyone. There is no way I will be going back to the gym in a room with loads of strangers so will not be using my membership... once all this is over I will have no problem going back to the gym. Can they make me pay under these circumstances? Thank you

Well its your choice not to go, and the gym is open. So yes, of course they can.1

That is just an assumption on your part and not helpful at all.bradders1983 said:Well its your choice not to go, and the gym is open. So yes, of course they can.
Dear OP, phone and ask and clearly state your concerns and why you are not going there. IMO, they may make a full or at least part credit. It never hurts to ask.1 -
What assumption? Have you actually read the opening post? The OP is choosing, by their own admission, not to go to a gym they are paying for. Yes by all means they can ring the gym and lay it on thick but the gym are under no obligation whatsoever to do anything. Shielding in England has finished (assuming thats where the OP is) and the OP isnt even the one with the medical issues.sweetsand said:

There is never any harm in asking, perhaps even look into how much it would cost to cancel the membership entirely. However, with shielding suggestions having been relaxed on the 1st this is, as has been said, a disinclination to use the gym and the answer may well be no. Hoping to delay paying until ‘this is all over’ is probably unrealistic as this isn’t going to go away anytime soon, we just have to find new ways of living with this. As for the gym, they will need to cover their costs, wages etc and may already be struggling after having been closed for so long, so don’t be surprised if they say no.northernlass_2 said:I had a gym membership that got temporarily stopped when gyms were closed.. they now want to reinstate the payments which is fair enough if the gym is going to be used. The OP can follow the termination process as per the contract.
The OP can also ask for a concession to end / suspend membership without the notice period - it does not have to be granted, but nothing ventured nothing gained.0 -
OP you can certainly ask to see what they can offer you but given they have been closed for the last few months and finances aren’t probably ideal I wouldn’t expect them to be very flexible.
I understand the predicament you are in but this isn’t the gyms fault and they are of course entitled to keep charging you within the t’s and c’s that you agreed to sign up too.0 -
I cant believe Sweetsand reported this post 🙄bradders1983 said:

I guess some people just don't like the directness of your replies. The question that was asked you gave an answer to so don't see the problem myself personally.bradders1983 said:

Very little point sugar coating things. If new posters want sympathy and the whole "awwww babez arent the gym discusting babez xxxxxx" routine, they can join Mumsnet.pdel61 said:

Bradders1983 has said nothing wrong so reporting them is completely unnecessary. No assumptions made and the answer was concise. Maybe we should report you for unnecessary and wrong reporting!sweetsand said:
