New build - wrong tiles, who is to blame?

Options
Hi all,
Some of you may have seen from my other thread that I am lucky enough to have purchased a new build property from a small-ish local developer. My wife chose specific tiles for the two bathrooms but upon moving in we found that they were totally different (I know, I know, first world problem).
The developer apologised and put us in contact with the local tiling company who apologised and said they can't do anything for 'several months' so offered £150 instead.
We refused so they then sent a self-employed tiler who said that it was a big job to replace them all and would take up to a week to complete. The tiling company have now offered £250 which, I feel, is not reflective of a week's work by a skilled person, plus materials.
Please can I ask for your thoughts on this?

Is it so bad to wait and get them replaced?

Not really, I guess. Just the hassle of a week of disruption and added Covid concerns of someone being in our house. A cash alternative is tempting.
  • Succumb to temptation. You know you want to.

(The tiles ain't that bad, are they?)

Ha!! ;) They aren't 'bad' but they are a million miles from what we wanted. Regarding the offer, £250 isn't the equivalent.....

If you wanted the specific tiles - I'd agree with the above - put it in writing that you'd like the tiles you requested, as the error was on their part (no matter who specifically within the organisation was to blame) - and that you'd suggest a £50 goodwill payment for for each month that the tiles have yet to be fitted.

And if you decide to do this, make sure the tiles are safely bought and stored (and check that they are the correct ones!); tile designs can change and disappear frequently and suddenly, as I found out when choosing for a new build...

You don't have a claim against the sub-contractor, your claim is against the developer and they would claim against the subcontractor. You should tell them that you are not satisfied with what you purchased and give them 28 days to rectify the issue or you will be forced to do and recover costs from them.
