Hi,
I can't subscribe to a thread that I wish to follow, or probably I don't see it, where is supposed to be the option?
It's a new account, but I don't think that's the reason.

It is called Bookmark. The Bookmark button is next to the New Post button at the top of the thread. It's possible you may not be able to see the button if you are using phone/tablet.
You should also make sure your Notification settings allow eMail notifications.1
