If there is no income (aside from benefits), then you'd also be entitled to council tax relief - This would reduce the CTX bill to a few pounds per week at most.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Try a more positive attitude, and if you are feeling depressed seek professional help, get down to CAB when they open and find out about any and every benefit you can claim, and start looking for work, I hear social care is hiring for example. Like many people your future goal when back on your feet should be to build a sizeable cash/diversified investment cushion for the tricky times, you can`t spend a house on daily bills or eat it unfortunately and the banks don`t like people using their house as a credit card any more either.

OP, you don't mention whether you are actually living in the property you are asking about - in a previous thread a couple of years back your wife was renting out her old flat, is this still the case ?
  • If you can claim child benefit hun, thats the golden ticket to the children benefits - UC with family elements

Please put details in the website “entitled to” and its really easy to use to work out entitlements

Hi Chippie. It's good to plan ahead, but don't get too despondent.

Covid won't last forever. It's likely that there will be a vaccine available by next spring, and the economy will start to pick up again then. In the meantime, try to be economical. There's not much more you can do.

It's highly unlikely any creditors will want to make you bankrupt before then. It's not really in their interests. They want you back up on your feet financially,  so you can pay them. So, yes, eventually your house might have to be sold to pay your creditors, but that won't happen for ages.

If this thread is moved to the right board, somebody will be along to help you check that you are really not entitled to any benefits apart from child benefit.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Thanks all for your suggestions and input, it gave me the kick up the pants i needed to seriously get onto the gov to find out and not get lost in the dark cloud over my head and just half-heartedly ask them and assume. Unfortunately I needed more phone conversations but didnt realize their offices shut so early at 4pm these days.  Lets see next week, but I'll get onto the 'entitled to' (yuck - hate that word) website in the meanwhle and fill their forms.  Thanks all.

I think both of these things are highly unlikely TBH.
