Have you tried contacting Citizens Advice Bureau or one of the debt help agencies? Seems to me that if you've lost your job then there's no money coming in. You may need to apply for benefits and that's a big minefield - I have no idea how it works, I admit. But these agencies do. I'm so sorry that some people on here just seem to be attacking you, for what reason I'm not quite sure, when you are at a low point, you've said you're not well and you have a disability. You need support, not to be harassed and patronised.
And to the mean people, you seem to have forgotten this, copied from the MSE Forum Rules: "Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember, the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue. A Guardian article once "doffed its cap" to this forum as being the one place where consumers can collect together and fight back. Our job is to help keep it that way."
Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Although I do carry out careful research before posting and never intend to mislead or supply out-of-date or incorrect information, please do not rely 100% on what you are reading. Verify everything in order to protect yourself as you are responsible for any action you consequently take.1 -
Yes I agree Mal, the OP was mean and could have been nice. But too late now though, maybe he will be back to apologise tomorrow.0

It's also worth noting that interest is still being charged on these payment holidays. It could easily be argued that it's irresponsible to let interest continue to be racked up month after month on a debt where the debtor has no clear plan of repayment.cymruchris said:
I had a post removed on another thread and got a yellow card when nothing offensive had been said, but there you go. We do seem to have a few recent sign-ups that take offence very easily, and hit the report button, yet if they'd looked deeper into the history of the person they are reporting, would see just how helpful they had been over their years of contributions.bradders1983 said:
And thank you to whoever reported this, I can hazard a guess.bradders1983 said:I mean, they have a point. What about if you dont get a job in 3 months? You cant keep doing payment holidays until the end of time.
Comparing it to terrorism is rather silly though.
In reply to the OP, it is unfortunate that they won't extend it further, and I can imagine that you now feel yourself in quite a predicament. As has been said, all credit card companies will want their money back, and you won't be able to keep having payment holidays forever no matter what the situation. The reality is what the reality is. If you don't have the money to pay them right now, then don't.
What will happen is that a missed payment will be recorded each month for the first 5 months. Hopefully in that time you'll be successful in getting another job, and can get yourself back on track. You won't be the only one in this situation, there'll be countless thousands of others. In the short-term, missed payments will be a negative factor, but over the long-term they'll become less important. Usually a finance company will mark an account as defaulted after the 6th missed payment, after which they may then sell the account on to a debt collector, but that's all months in advance yet, and for now debt collectors aren't actually allowed to collect debts.
For now - don't let a missed payment worry you too much - focus on getting employment as your first priority in your journey to recovery. Nobody yet knows what's going to happen next - and this will affect many thousands of people, so in one sense, you just need to sit back and let things happen that you have no control over, but keep working on the things you do have control over, like continuing to seek a new job.
At least if they default, interest is almost always stopped so the debt won't balloon out of proportion.0 -

I had to make another after being banned for replying (and I quote) "Oh really?!" To someone. Fully banned. After a long held and generally helpful account. I tried apealing it but just got ignored. It's crazy. I don't know who chooses moderators or checks their work but something is really broken here. Trolls are allowed to operate for months with no repocusions and then good posters are attacked and banned for next to no reason.4
