Barclaycard Payment Holiday Denied

in Credit cards
Hi, I lost my job in March due to Covid and all my creditors allowed a 3 month payment holiday. I still do not have a job despite applying for a lot of jobs and those creditors allowed another 3 month payment holiday extension on the payment holiday all except Barclaycard. After 3 weeks of asking them, 9 calls, having to go over 4 verbal financial applications which kept getting lost in the system with 6 hours on the phone finally today I was told I cannot have another payment holiday because I cannot guarantee them that I will have a job in 3 months time. I said - all the other creditors did and you are the only ones. I have mental health problems and have a disability. All of which Barclaycard knew and still treated me like a terrorist. Please can someone advise me. As you would expect, I am not well right now and trying to sort Barclaycard out has been beyond awful.

I mean, they have a point. What about if you dont get a job in 3 months? You cant keep doing payment holidays until the end of time.
Comparing it to terrorism is rather silly though.6 -
They're not treating you like a terrorist. They're just not allowing another payment holiday.
See if you can cut back in other areas, but to be honest, if you can't make payments, it's not the end of the world. You haven't been making payments for some months, even if as payment holidays, so just pay what you can.2 -
And thank you to whoever reported this, I can hazard a guess.bradders1983 said:I mean, they have a point. What about if you dont get a job in 3 months? You cant keep doing payment holidays until the end of time.

A 2nd freeze is at lender discretion.

Why are you bothering to help him? Look at his previous replies. Only wants people to agree with him, along with a bit of sympathy.born_again said:

Realistically your hands are a bit tied here, it’s up to their discretion if they can offer another holiday or not.
Best bet now is raising with them your financial difficulties, perhaps seeing if they can freeze interest & charges and agree a repayment plan (sometimes it’s possible).
Failing that contacting CAB/StepChange or a debt charity to see what help they can get you. But most likely that route would lead to the account being defaulted & closed eventually. However if there’s no income coming in, the worth is priority bills (Food, tent.. etc) over credit cards & you may just have to take a hit with the credit card & the negative effects of that. Not a nice position to be in, but there’s bound to be hundreds if not thousands of others in similar situations due to the current crisis.1 -
Can a non millennial post this, please? As someone clearly born in 1987 your opinion is irrelevant to the OP. Or something.adamp87 said:Realistically your hands are a bit tied here, it’s up to their discretion if they can offer another holiday or not.

I mean I wasn’t born in 87, but OP is free to band me as a millennial 😂bradders1983 said:

I had a post removed on another thread and got a yellow card when nothing offensive had been said, but there you go. We do seem to have a few recent sign-ups that take offence very easily, and hit the report button, yet if they'd looked deeper into the history of the person they are reporting, would see just how helpful they had been over their years of contributions.bradders1983 said:

Comparing it to terrorism is rather silly though.
In reply to the OP, it is unfortunate that they won't extend it further, and I can imagine that you now feel yourself in quite a predicament. As has been said, all credit card companies will want their money back, and you won't be able to keep having payment holidays forever no matter what the situation. The reality is what the reality is. If you don't have the money to pay them right now, then don't.
What will happen is that a missed payment will be recorded each month for the first 5 months. Hopefully in that time you'll be successful in getting another job, and can get yourself back on track. You won't be the only one in this situation, there'll be countless thousands of others. In the short-term, missed payments will be a negative factor, but over the long-term they'll become less important. Usually a finance company will mark an account as defaulted after the 6th missed payment, after which they may then sell the account on to a debt collector, but that's all months in advance yet, and for now debt collectors aren't actually allowed to collect debts.
For now - don't let a missed payment worry you too much - focus on getting employment as your first priority in your journey to recovery. Nobody yet knows what's going to happen next - and this will affect many thousands of people, so in one sense, you just need to sit back and let things happen that you have no control over, but keep working on the things you do have control over, like continuing to seek a new job.3
