I have a feeling that your mate has been doing this on regular basis. In this case it is quite understandable that BT cut the line finaly.
Please, forgive me for wrong accusation if my assumption is incorrect...

I'd mislaid my bt bill a few weeks ago and completely forgot all about it, until i recieved a call from them asking for payment and advising me of the £5 late payment charge. I knew it was my own fault so never complained. I apologised and offered to pay the full amount by credit card.

Once the formalities had been finalised, I was asked if I wanted any further bills to be payed monthly by DD, I agreed because I have a terrible memory. I gave all my bank details and was then told that on this occassion I would be credited the £5 charge. I don't very much like bt and I think their line rental charges are way too expensive, but on this occassion I have to give them a half hearted thumbs up lol :D

I'd advise your mate to contact bt and offer to pay off the bill in full or if thats not possible come to an agreeable amount and pay it off as quickly as possible. The phones been cut off now, so theres not much else she can do I'm afraid, and I guess there has to be consequences to not paying your bills on time :(

Sorry I'm not the bearer of great news

I recently had a new BT line installed... (for work).. the bill came and was passed to my current employer.. where it got mislaid..

I then receive a phone call from BT (India Division) who told me to pay up.. (In a very polite manner).. I explained what must have happened and asked where was the reminder.. (Red bill) I was told.. that they no longer send them out.. but that the Phone Call was in place of the bill..

I recon it must be cheaper for them that way.....

Do you mean to tell us that there are still people out there who don't pay a bill deliberately until the 'red reminder' arrives?

But they know they've used the service (in this case a BT phone line) therefore they know that they owe the cost of the service.

No wonder people get their electricity, gas, water, phone etc chopped if this is their normal bill-paying strategy.

I am not sure just what kind of help you're asking for?

To avoid being cut off....pay the bill when you receive it...even better, pay by direct debit so that you don't even have to think about it.

  • can you not change the billing date then?

and its not just old people who have the problem of being "skint". i assume dss payments have always been monthly so its not a suprise. you know you owe bt. if you cant afford to pay it until you get your benefits then dont use it, or change your billing date to when you can afford it.

your mate didnt pay for 3 weeks .... deliberately .... and BT are in the wrong?????

I think the poster was mearly having a joke about the way you type, don't take it to heart, its just a bit of fun ;):D

However the fact is that, the bill needed paying, I'm sorry that your friend is old and skint and £105 is a lot of money to find for anyone, maybe it would be wise to check the home phones board and select a cheaper phone provider, there are many available, alternatively if your friend wants to stay with bt, then she may need to look at other ways of keeping her bills down,

I've never had a bill costing more that £3 since changing to talk talk for free evening and weekend calls and signing up to 18866 for all day time calls, a cost of 2p per connection and no charges per minute. Something like this could be a better idea for your friend, she would however still need to pay the standard line rental fee, but the cost of calls should come down considerably.

Take a look on the boards and see what you think, there are many people who will offer advice should you need it.
