It's tough out there for loads of MoneySaving families, so I would love to hear your ideas about how to cut the costs of school uniforms ahead of the new school year.
Some schools have second hand uniforms that you can buy for a discounted cost and the money goes towards the PTA. If the school doesn't have this scheme, maybe set one up? I've found supermarkets to have good value school clothing. The most effective thing is to put a little money aside for a few months to spread the cost.
Go back to the old days (well 1970’s and earlier) We had badges which were sewn on to blazer’s etc, none of this expensive uniform. Badges were easily removed from clothing and were put on the next size up and passed on to other people when the child left that school to go to another. I had suggested this to the Headteacher years ago when my children were in school. Why not? It’s much more practical and sensible. Uniform can be purchased quite cheap in many supermarkets etc nowadays, so makes sense. Doesn’t it?
