EURO VI

Hello,
I have a customer, new to me, since the beginning of July and they have now asked that all vehicles entering their site must be EURO VI or higher.  I think that means 2015 or newer.

I have a 2007 Focus, which I am certain does not meet EURO VI (though, surprisingly, the London ULEZ checker says it is ULEZ-compliant).  I cannot borrow my wife's car as that is a 1997 Fiesta so would be even less compliant with the customer request.

The work will average 2 days per week up until the end of February.  It may extend, but I cannot make decisions based upon a work-value that may not exist.  It seems a big expense if I was to invest in a 2015 car just for this.

Travel time by car is 30 minutes, on-line journey planner says about 2 hours by a rather convoluted public transport route.  The nearest train station is about 3 miles from the site, so that does not offer a good solution.

Despite the practicalities of public transport, is my best solution to park off-site nearby and then walk in the last 1/2 mile and just say I traveled by public transport?

It is what I'd do, but what business of theirs is it how you get to work if you are not bringing a vehicle onto their site?

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I guess the Focus is petrol, then...? Petrol is Euro4, Diesel is Euro6 - the cut-off is based on NOx emission levels falling to around their current levels.

So long as you aren't entering their site, does it matter how you got near to the site?

Thanks both.  Yes, both the Fiesta and the Focus are petrol.  Looks like parking nearby and walk into site is the solution.

My wife's new car would meet the rules (66 plate Fiesta) but she would never allow me to take that into a construction site.

It may be one of their KPI's with regards to their environmental management plan. Large construction projects such as HS2 will have these sorts of requirements for every vehicle entering their sites.

    Exactly this.
But I think I need to go with the solution of park nearby and walk in to site...

Also check it applies to visitors cars and not just HGVs and heavy plant.

Yeah, they mentioned it to me in a call today.  Must be why all the vans are 2015.

Come to think of it, I've ignored a couple of surveys from my employer asking amongst other things, how I get to work. Maybe there are "targets" to do with % of workforce riding their bikes :)

This looks like it may come out to bite me soon as they are auditing driving licences and vehicles and the questions specifically require Y/N for EURO 6 and for ULEZ.

ULEZ is easy to check from a reliable source (and my car is OK):
    https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/

For EURO 6, I can't find a similar checker that necessarily has the full and correct database behind it.  As I understand it, some cars could meet EURO6 from as early as 2014 and all new cars had to comply from September 2015 (except stock could still be sold until well into 2016).

The only EURO 6 checker I can find is this one, but I wonder whether it is juts referencing date of first registraion or actually a more detailed database?
    https://www.hpi.co.uk/content/diesel-news-the-future-of-diesel/hpi-euro-emission-standards-checker/

I am think about either just "biting the bullet" for a car change, but with lockdown persisting and my mileage currently very low that seems absurd right now.
I can continue to try to use the "public transport" claim, but I think they'll be on to that really.
Another option is the cheapest used car as an interim step.  Given that EURO 6 is now including some rather older cars, something compliant with EURO 6 and ULEZ could be found for relatively small sums.

I will drag it out for as long as I possibly can - aided by the fact that there are others without compliant vehicles and including the boss.

Whether of course they actually physically check vehicles entering the site is another matter..it may just be a box-ticking exercise.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
