Demolishing a garage - will it devalue the house?

I am not as fixed as some of the other replies. I would only look at a house that has a garage, or space and vehicle access to build one. So I would still look at it, and the option of building a decent garage rather than the prefab thing that is there would appeal.

We owned a house with seperate garage.
It was in good condition but may have had asbestos roof ( we weren't sure )
We were quoted £600 over the phone by a specialist asbestos removal company to just remove the roof panels.
We sold the whole garage on eBay for £260 and I helped dismantle the garage which was old but in excellent condition.
We then have to break up the concrete base which was 6/8 inches thick.2 -
One small suggestion - if you do decide to demolish it, maybe take a few photos first and/or save some google street view images of it.
If you decide that you want to build a new garage at some point in the future (or maybe even a shed, workshop, summerhouse) or there is a dispute about whether you have permission to drive over the pavement, it may help to have evidence that there was a garage there previously.1 -

We’re in a similar situation. We have an old block work and asbestos garage. It’s not big enough for our car. We happen to use it for storage. I wouldn’t worry about how it affects the value of your house. Having a small garage however cruddy will be a plus for some buyers whilst it will put others off. If you want to get rid of it for your own benefit, do it.0
