BT Mobile changing plan - extra cost with no authorisation!

We received an email from BT Mobile stating that the calling plan my wife is on will be closed at the end of August.
They say they will move her to the Unlimited Minutes package for an extra £4.50 per month. They give the option of going to a 700 minutes plan; if you can get hold of them!!
She doesn't use her mobile much and as it only costs £5 a month currently an extra 90% is excessive.
My question is "are they allowed to move her from the current plan to a more expensive plan without authorisation?"

If her current plan is no longer available, yes.  They can't just cut her off when her current plan expires. If she couldn't get through, she'd be left without service.

But of course she can refuse and take an alternative plan with another provider if she prefers.

My plan was changing on renewal last month with the option of 500 anytime minutes instead of unlimited weekend calls. I phoned them up to discuss the various options and they answered immediately.

I suggest that you give them another call.
