I received a parking fine from TPS in the post from March when I went for dinner at the pub and I didn't realise I had to put my registration number into a computer in the pub to be exempt from paying.  I advised them of this when I got the charge but they rejected the appeal.  They have now sent me a "final demand" letter with an increased fine of £90 and if not paid within 14 days it will be referred to their legal department where additional recovery costs will be incurred.
What are my rights for ignoring this... will they keep going until it goes to court/bailiffs etc or if I just keep ignoring will they eventually just go away.  I am refusing to pay for a fine for something like this!

Any info would be much appreciated!

    A debt collectors letter.

Please read the fourth post on the NEWBIES thread for a full explanation on how to deal with it - but in summary - ignore it.

How much was the charge for. ?     They cannot increase the charge, it is unlawful
Go and have a chat with the pub manager.  If you did not know you had to enter your reg number, the first question must be ....... why did his staff not mention it.  Pub landlords know that if they lose customers when their turnover has gone down 50% due to covid, chances are they will go bust.  Times are difficult enough, why would he want to lose business because of a parking scammer.
Ask him to cancel and does he value your business ?

Ignore debt chasing letters that are trying to con you with unlawful amounts with threats of more add-ons.

Hopefully the pub will cancel, if not, just wait and if you hear from one of the dodgy legals, come back here

PS: Maybe court but NO bailiffs

It is not a fine, it is an invoice from an ex-clamper to compensate them for the alleged harm they suffered when you did what you did. We call it a scam. Pay them not a penny unless a judge so orders it.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP., it can cause the scammer extra costs, and in some cases, cancellation.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up later this year,

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these companies, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

What happened when you complained to the landowner/brewery chain/pub manager? If the pub is still in business and want you back as a customer, they would be stupid not to cancel it.

will they keep going until it goes to court
Quite likely, unless the landowner cancels it - not news to you of course because you hopefully read 'NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST' before posting this thread?  And learned from your reading there, that 'complaint to the landowner' is PLAN A, at all stages, even years later.

    bailiffs etc.
No bailiffs unless you ignore (or move house and miss) a court claim, which you won't because you are here now & we win these cases at court stage.  No-one here pays except the 1% who rarely lose at a hearing and they then finally pay and no CCJ or bailiffs ever happen.

So get it cancelled by the pub asap.  Don't take ''we can't'' for an answer.  They can, or the site landowner can.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
