Is it an annual policy? The OP didn't specify unless I missed it so I assumed it was a single trip as she says she took it out for a trip in October.
Jan, Feb, March, April, May, June, July covered, August, Sept, Oct not covered.
You may be right though, for a £100 policy.1

if you went on holiday and didn't need to claim for anything do you expect your premium refunded because you never claimed?janetjgr said:the sorry for the typo Mistake holiday was fir 2020. Took out in January 2020 at a cost of £102. Whilst the cover has been in place so it seems unfair to keep full amount when 1 we have not claimed & 2 if they do this to every passenger they will make a hefty profit for nothing whilst those paying premiums have lost a lot.0

I might contact Direct Line in the morning and ask for 10 months worth of car insurance premiums back.0

I have cover with the Post Office for a trip to Dubai on the 28th August taken out on the 3rd March.Matthew1268 said:advice please, we are due to travel to Gran Canaria on Saturday 1st August we booked as a package with OnTheBeach flights are with EasyJet from Bristol. The FCO decision made me check my insurance - With the Post Office - issued on 3rd of March so before the WHO declaring the Pandemic on 11th March - but the PO says the policy does not cover Covid 19 or repatriation etc, which is against most of the advice from Martin. Because EasyJet are still flying - against FCO advice its unlikely OnTheBeach are going to cancel we are really stuck in the middle.... any advice, suggestions welcome...
You need to ring them again and speak to the claims department.
I was told exactly the same but I pointed out to them that on the 13th March they updated the policies of existing customers to include cover for Covid.
From their own website, I took a screenshot on my phone "for travel insurance policies sold after the 24th February 2020, additional cover has now been added as standard. Should the FCO advise change to all but essential travel or not to travel to a certain area / country, you will now be able to submit a claim for cancellation. Please ensure the cover was purchased prior to any announcement on or after the 24th February 2020."
A helpful agent rang me back to say I could cancel but the guidance said I can only submit a cancellation claim 48 hours before the departure date!
I however am more concerned about the 48 hours cancellation time slot. Can't find anything in their terms and conditions when I questioned this he told me he is reading it from the guidance manual!
My policy number starts with TC, and it's different depending on the first 2 letters of your policy number
Please do let me know how you get on. Good luck.

Hi - that's encouraging news, I have checked my policy and it does start with TC.... can you advise if you captured the website full address for the bulletin you mentioned. It would be great to have that. I will call them today and keep you updated. Thanks

Insurance is a pooled risk. The insurer is on the hook from day one for the entire liability. How do you know that they haven't previously paid out a lot in claims? Profit is subjective often far less per policy than people assume.janetjgr said:the sorry for the typo Mistake holiday was fir 2020. Took out in January 2020 at a cost of £102. Thanks for responding but still feel a little let down. Every other company seems understanding of the current situation & whilst I appreciate that I have been covered most insurance companies after researching do offer a per portion of premiums back for length of time left on policy. Maybe 70% was aiming high but feel the underwriter could have come back with a counter offet0

With a demand of a minimum 70%, they had little to lose by offering nothing.
You told them you weren't interested in a counter offer.0
