Took out holiday insurance with Asda for a trip to Mexico in October 2920. Of course it’s been cancelled   contacted Asda to cancel policy but have been told they will email underwriter & I will get a decision in 5 days. I can understand not getting full premium back but said I want them to be aware I want a minimum of 70%. Had to fight for agent to put this on email to underwriter. What’s the chance of me getting some of the premium back? Thank you

You have had benefit of the cover since you took it out. Getting half back would be a decent result to be honest.

Just out of interest how much did the insurance cost for a holiday in 2920? Surprised a trip in 2920 has already been cancelled  :D  ;)

In all seriousness though, if I was the insurer I would offer nothing. At the end of the day they have provided you with cover up until you cancelled. It would make me not want to give you anything also if you demanded atleast 70% back. At best you will probably get cost of insurance - time on cover - admin/cancellation fee = refund.

    Some info here:
When did you take the insurance out?
A pro-rata refund minus reasonable admin fee would seem fair.
Have you actually received a full refund of any money you paid for the holiday?
  • the sorry for  the typo Mistake holiday was fir 2020. Took out in January 2020 at a cost of £102. Whilst the cover has been in place so it seems unfair to keep full amount when 1 we have not claimed & 2 if they do this to every passenger they will make a hefty profit for nothing whilst those paying premiums have lost a lot.
  • advice please, we are due to travel to Gran Canaria on Saturday 1st August we booked as a package with OnTheBeach flights are with EasyJet from Bristol. The FCO decision made me check my insurance - With the Post Office - issued on 3rd of March so before the WHO declaring the Pandemic on 11th March - but the PO says the policy does not cover Covid 19 or repatriation etc, which is against most of the advice from Martin. Because EasyJet are still flying - against FCO advice its unlikely OnTheBeach are going to cancel we are really stuck in the middle.... any advice, suggestions welcome...

So you are approximately 50% of the way through the policy, and a pro-rata discount of 50% would seem reasonable.
So that would be about £50, minus an admin fee.
You'll have had half a year of cover for half a year of premiums. The fact that you haven't claimed doesn't really come into it.

You've actually had about 70% of the benefit of the policy, so you may get a small refund.  £30 less admin.

They're certainly not going to make a hefty profit out of you.

Wait for OTB to cancel and get a refund.
