Hi,I've recently purchased a new build house, completion date end of November,I asked could I run a CAT 6 cable through to every room for future use before walls were completed.
Been told by house builder that they can't do this as it's not in extras list.
Anything I can do ?

What do you want them to do? Can you not just get it wired after it’s handed over?0

Run the cable now along with everything else before walls are complete, to do it after hand over means taking walls/ floorboards up.0

Right. But they've told you they're not doing that. If by "purchased" you mean "exchanged contracts" then the time for negotiation has passed.

Obviously it's much better if you can do this at the pre-finished stage, but not too unsurprising they aren't keen to allow you to do it if it's not one of their own extras; I doubt they'll entertain anything that could possibly, remotely hold them up, get in their way, or cause an iota of additional hassle for their plasterers. Also, they might simply not want anyone else on site due to insurance reasons.
Ultimately I guess this comes down to the individual site manager. Whether it's worth trying to take this up the management level should you have no success, I dunno? I can see it from their point - where would they draw the line? How many customers or their own tradesfolk do they allow on site when they are busy themselves? Can of worms.
Have you spoken directly to their site manager? If you give him your absolute guarantee that, if he allows you just a couple of hours in the house with a promise to not get in anyone's way, you will have the cables stapled in place and all you'll ask is that the boarder brings the cables through at socket height - you'll fit the boxes and everything after you've moved in!
I still doubt very much they'll allow it.0 -
Thanks Jeepers, it's straight forward to do it now,I have a TV point in every room I've asked when there pulling the TV cable through to run the CAT cable along with it, no hassle there, the same electrician can do it , I have said I'll pay for the extra work.0

Can you get the electrician to one side and ask him direct?0

Phoned the sale's lady today and asked can you give me a contact detail for him,she said everything has to go through her then the head office.0

I can't get near the house yet as it's fenced off as works ongoing.0

Just have a wander round and ask to speak to the sparkies. Someone on site will point them out to you. By wander around I don't mean onto the live section of the site but the section that is already built, lived in.0
