British Airways will issue you a Future Travel Voucher upto 3 hours before your departure time.
Not on a Holiday though - 3 Weeks Notice required to change/cancel.
For Spain I am expecting this to be rescinded shortly - at least for departures due in the next few weeks.

I imagine airlines will start seeing an increase in flexo tickets with refund options. People need to stop relying on the goodwill of the airlines and start buying tickets that give them the sort of flexibility that they are probably going to need even next year

To the haters in this thread, just want to add my voice to the others who have explained: people may have booked these flights months ago before Coronavirus. With insurance policies invalidated by the FCO advice it isn't sensible for people to travel.

In my view it is reasonable to expect business to show goodwill, especially in these circumstances - the fact that some airlines are indeed offering flexibility show that some recognise this. This is a consumer site and people here are interested in the side of the consumer.
  • I don't understand the 'hate' towards airlines who won't refund due to the quarantine restrictions - at the end of the day, the flight is still going, you can still go and any issues on return aren't the concern of the airline.
It's because their attitude towards customers is appalling - not after my money back just would like to travel when it's safe as per government guidelines; can't travel as I have a minor in my party who isn't in our social bubble, can't isolate on return due to work and also care for an elderly (84) and vulnerable parent - but Ryanair have zero sympathy. So I lose £700 in flights or have to cough up £320 'admin fee' to move them. Even if they halved the 'admin fee' it would be something but not a single decent gesture at on their side.

There are policies that cover for FCO advice not to travel. But they cost more than the cheap policies.
You pays your money and makes your choice.
  • It is very useful to know how companies respond when things go wrong.
While companies refusing to accommodate refunds or changes may be following the law, it is perfectly reasonable to point out that one company is treating its customer better than another (perhaps especially when they don't legally have).
Also, the behaviour of companies is not simply whether they are offering refunds/changes or not, it is also about their general conduct (how responsive they are, whether they give proper information on legal rights, whether they try to put undue pressure on customers etc, etc).

I keep seeing the "I cannot travel because the FCO advice means my insurance would be invalidated"

Why not just claim on the insurance for cancellation? Is that not the point of it?

It should be as simple as that, but it depends upon whether the policy provides cover for cancellation in that situation.
It is possible to have a policy which is invalidated by traveling against FCO advice, but does not provide for cancellation on that basis.
    Depends upon the policy.
