Virgin Holidays Refund Debacle

I despair….!

My Virgin Holidays trip was scheduled from 9th April 2020 for 9 nights.

I received an email on 2nd April 2020 advising my trip had been cancelled due to Covid19.  I was presented with a voucher attached to the email, yet on the 22nd April, I declined the voucher and opted for a full refund.  Several communications were received from Virgin, stating a variety of timescales.  “no longer than 120 days from when you requested your refund, but we will make every effort to ensure your money is returned sooner”was the latest comms to be received, yet at 96 days and counting, I am beginning to get frustrated.

I note Which? have entered the fray and put together a 10-point plan in April 2020, yet unsure if any points have been considered by UK Government or the Travel Industry.

Any crumb of advice, comfort or recourse welcome.

    I am on 112 days tomorrow for a straight forward flight refund

    There is some light at the end of the tunnel though as refunds are being made, slowly.

    I may start a charge back at day 119 , though the amount owed is relatively small and is spread over two credit cards .

    chargebacks are not quick these days so you are probably better just hanging in there and saving yourself the grief

    It depends on the credit card involced.

    Amex seem to do well.

    Virgin money , not so!

    No problem in running the two in tandem though.
  • What is the next step if your refund is taking forever and a day to appear? Chargeback is one option of you've paid by credit card, what about if you paid by debit card?

    You can still do a chargeback through your debit card.
  • my frustration with virgin is growing, surprisingly I received £2142 from virgin on 1/10/2020 which was 93 days after applying for a refund I know people who have been waiting longer and I feel your pain, my problem is I paid virgin £2678 so they have underpaid by over £500 and they are unreachable either by phone text or e-mail I feel i'm just being ignored any suggestions other than legel action

    Did they explain what the £500 retention was for?   Try to find out this before you start any legal action.   
  • In that case contact your credit card company if you paid using card and request charge back for missing amount.
