do you suspect he will not return the flight money when it is received?kazza2020 said:Firstly he does have the money, earns plenty. Secondly £704 for the hotel and over £600 for my flight is hard to write off.
If there is no valid claim for the hotel (if the hotel was open and travel insurance does not cover then there may be nothing to come back (I assume you would not want to reschedule the date if the hotel offered that) would you expect him to lose his half of the payment and also pay your half from his own funds?....him lose £1,408 and you lose nothing?0 -
Even if his travel insurance did cover it they would more than likely only pay out his share. You will need to claim your share from your insurance.

You'll need to find his current address for service if you intend to go the Small Claims Route. But always send an LBA first and give him 7 days.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Might be worth a call to OP's insurer to see if there is any mileage in a claim and if so what evidence they would need. I'm not sure how it works when one person from a couple books and pays but they each have individual insurance.
Is it possible that ex is waiting for the flight refund to come through and will refund from that?
I think just expecting ex to stump up because he is better off is not very likely after a breakup.
I wouldn't go with threats and legal action etc when the flight refund is in the wind and its probably not even justified for the hotel if the ex can't actually get any money back.1 -
My main problem is that he is not interested in persuing any claim. This trip was booked in January before any covid and so should have been covered. He made just one phone call about this. Would not get anything in writing, complain to the ombudsman or try chargeback from his bank. One phone call, that's it. This is money he should easily have been able to get back. So far things are amicable, but am loath to push as I say I only have phone contact.

Not altogether sure what you want from this Forum then? Either you want your money back and you are prepared to do something in order to achieve this aim, or you don't ...kazza2020 said:So far things are amicable, but am loath to push as I say I only have phone contact.0 -
Based on this (mainly the last sentence) then write it off and move on.kazza2020 said:My main problem is that he is not interested in persuing any claim. You have had advice. Either write it off and move on, or push him to deal with it. I am not sure what else anyone else can suggest.0
