Half-way is the Corby-Huntingdon-Wellingborough triangle of lost souls.
Alternatively, if you dip down a bit to MK/Bedford/Northampton, it makes it longer but may make the journey better.
Honestly, I think you're going to need to do some testing.
Stay overnight in a cheap hotel somewhere around those, do the commute, and see how bad it actually is. It's going to be a horror show, whichever.

Personally, I'd live in one place or the other and one of you do a Mon-Thurs or Tues-Fri let (or less) if affordable and if able to guarantee to wfh.
Both doing long commutes is going to wreck you both. If you have or want kids, definitely forget it.
