    The bell transformer doesn't appear to be supplying anything so could be disconnected?

    yes, it read in kWh. so the red thing down is the main switch to my red flat. and once he switched the main switch off the meter still read.

    Are you saying the reading went up?

    Yes, so he was not at home for two weeks and he noticed the meter was reading even when the main switch was off.

    it should just sit there showing the same reading until the main switch is switched on again, at which point it should increment based on units actually used.

    Not sure what your friend means by reading -  it will always display a reading - the question is was that reading different to when he went away.?

  • @Robin9 yes the reading is different when he was away for two weeks and it's by a 20-40Kwh margin

    Rather than switch off at the single switch - switch off at the consumer unit and see if that makes a difference.
